Cleveland Elementary Adopt A School

PASADENA, CALIF. (Monday, February 5, 2018) The  Rose Bowl Stadium and the Legacy Foundation, will formally announce the recent adoption of the Cleveland Elementary School Condors, in a ceremony on February 7th. After participating in the Pasadena Unified School District “Principal of the Day” effort in 2016, the Rose Bowl Stadium felt deeply moved to give back to the local community and students at Cleveland Elementary School, through this effort.

“The students and faculty at Cleveland Elementary School, are some of the most welcoming in the Pasadena area,” said Rose Bowl Stadium General Manager Darryl Dunn. “We are thrilled to be a small part of the Cleveland family and we look forward to exciting opportunities to partner together in the months and years to come.”  

The students at Cleveland were able to join in an exclusive event at the Rose Bowl, through the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, back in November 2017, to dedicate and unveil the new Jackie Robinson Statue. The new statue is centered outside of the Rose Bowl Stadium, in front of the iconic Rose Bowl marquee. The school has also been recipients of a stipend that has helped to assist the school in filling the disaster preparedness kits for each student at Cleveland. 

“The Cleveland Condors are thrilled to be working with the Rose Bowl on such a wonderful joint partnership,” said Cleveland Elementary Principal Debra Lucas. “Our students and faculty have already been gifted with the opportunity to be apart of a historic event, that we wouldn’t otherwise witness. Saying thank you, doesn’t even do justice to the appreciation that we have towards the staff at the Rose Bowl Stadium, for selecting our school for this honor.”  

In alignment with the official adoption, the Rose Bowl Stadium and Legacy Foundation have partnered with Second and Seven Foundation, who “promotes reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need, while encouraging youth athletes of the community to pay it forward.” Through this partnership, Second and Seven Foundation, has generously donated 500 books to the Cleveland Condor community.  

The 2nd & 7 Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Columbus, Ohio. Three former Ohio State University football players, Luke Fickell, Ryan Miller and Mike Vrabel, started the foundation in 1999. Inspired by their involvement in various community outreach programs as student athletes, they decided to continue making a difference by promoting literacy and providing positive role models for children in central Ohio. Since that time, their outreach has grown into a national effort to pay it forward.  

"I am so excited about the partnership between the Rose Bowl Stadium, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation and The 2nd & 7 Foundation to provide free books and role models to the children in the Pasadena community. During my time as a collegiate student-athlete, I learned that my sphere of influence reached far beyond the playing field. After finishing my football career in the 1997 Rose Bowl, I started The 2nd & 7 Foundation with the mission of providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward. Together, we have the ability to influence a generation of readers throughout the country!" said Ryan Miller, 2nd & & 7 Foundation Co-Founder.
