Archie Griffin Statue & Legacy Walk Dedication - 8/17/2024 (Recap) - Pasadena, CA from Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation on Vimeo.
The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation dedicated the venue’s fifth statue as Archie Griffin joined Jackie Robinson, the 1999 Team USA Women’s World Cup Champions, Keith Jackson, and Terry Donahue, Saturday, August 17th.
Archie was named the All-Century Player for the Rose Bowl Game’s® 100th year (2013), played in four Rose Bowl Games®, and is a member of the Rose Bowl and College Football Halls of Fame. Above all, the example he continues to set for his community and those around him is almost equally as worthy.
The celebration at the stadium was attended by hundreds and featured high-ranking guest speakers from the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, the Tournament of Roses, the Big Ten Conference, the Heisman Trust, the City of Pasadena, and of course the Griffin Family.
A replica copy of the statue will be gifted and dedicated at Ohio Stadium (“The Horseshoe”) on August 30 back in Columbus, thus tying the two historic venues together more intimately than ever before.
The project is a great example of the work we continue to do around the venue to increase educational opportunities for our more than 1 million visitors per year and appropriately recognize our past.
Thanks to the donors near and far who helped to make this happen. It was strongly supported in the Columbus, Ohio community, as well, given Archie’s importance to the history of this wonderful stadium.
As previously announced by America’s Stadium, a Legends Walk will also be created adjacent to the Griffin statue in the Stadium’s Court of Champions, to highlight and educate visitors on the 19 Heisman Trophy winners that have played in the Rose Bowl Game® up to the current day. Led by Griffin’s four appearances in Pasadena, student-athletes from schools such as UCLA, Wisconsin, Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, Michigan, and more will be represented in the neighboring Legends Walk.
